I Garagisti di Sorgono

Located in the geographical center of Sardinia, in the Mandrolisai appellation, three friends have teamed up to keep alive the wine-growing traditions of their parents and grandparents, cultivating their families’ 60-100 year old alberello vines of Cannonau, Monica and Bovale (aka “Muristeddu”) on poor, white/pink granite soils.

The vines grow on five hills: Burdaga; Figu; Pischina; Pardu; and Cresia at altitude of 550m above sea level. The vines’ age combined with the poor soils and diurnal shifts provided by the altitude mean that the Garagisti wines hit a little differently than their coastal counterparts, which are often dense and high in alcohol. An otherwise hot area is cooled by the nighttime air which helps with acid preservation, and the mineral rich, poor soils and vine age natural curb the vines’ production, concentrating the grape flavors.

The vignaioli of I Garagisti manage to make wines that still vibrate with the primordial energy of this wild Island, but do so with incredible grace and agility. Expect lighter wines, both in body and alcohol

The grapes are all farmed organically, wines are spontaneously fermented with wild yeasts and go through no fining or filtration. Sulfur only at bottling.
