CANTINA GALLURA

The Cantina Sociale Gallura is located in the town of Tempio Pausania on the foothills of Mount Limbara. This cooperative was founded in 1956 and it currently has 160 producers contributing their grapes with a total area of planted vineyards is about 600 acres. The soil, a mix of sand and rock, is poor, and the vines have to struggle to survive this harsh environment.

The Cantina Sociale prides itself on the rigorous grape selection, modern cellar with temperature control fermentation, and for some wines, aging in cask or barrique. The star of the winery is the Vermentino di Gallura and they produce five labels featuring Vermentino : Canayli & Genesi (Superiore), and Piras, Gemellae & Mavriana. Alongside the native cultivars of Vermentino, Cannonau, Moscato, Pascale, Caricagiola, the members of the winery also cultivate Nebbiolo, a native vine to Piemonte but brought over to Sardegna in 1700.
